Germany negotiating with Spain for coal bunker station on the Canary Islands according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 8 September 1908

An item reported that the German government denied that she was negotiating with the Portuguese government for founding a coal bunker station on the Canary Islands.(1) An earlier edition dated 27 August reported that the German and Spanish governments were no longer negotiating for such a station, which was intended of trading purposes (for the Ostasiatische Lloyd?]. Strangely enough reported the Deli courant dated 28 August there was an agreement between Spain and Germany for a station on the Canary Islands.

Note

1. This item is far from correct, the Canary Islands are part of Spain. The newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 8 September reported a similar item reporting that the British source about the negotiations going on between Portugal and Germany for a station on one of the Portuguese islands was denied by Germany.
