French and American warships present in the Baltic according to the Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 8 dated 28 August 1920


Pennsylvania-class

An item reported the presence of the French warships Gueydon (1) and Ancre (2) at Danzig, Poland and the American USS Pittsburgh (3) with admiral Brooks at Reval [Tallinn, Estonia] with American destroyers bound for the Baltic underway.

Notes

1. Of Gueydon-class armoured cruisers, preceded by Jeanne d’Arc, succeeded by Dupleix-class, laid down at Arsenal de Lorient on 13 August 1898, launched on 20 September 1899, commissioned on 1 September 1903, refitted in 1923 and sunk by the British Royal Air force at Brest, France in August 1944 and after the Second World War broken up.

2. Of the Scarpe 1st class avisos or sloops, laid down by Arsenal de Lorient in 1917, launched in April 1918, completed in 1918 and stricken in 1940.

3. Of the Pennsylvania-class armoured cruisers built under the fiscal years 1900-1901, preceded by the USS Brooklyn (ACR-3) and succeeded by the Tennessee-class.
