Japanese tanker Akebono Maru 1939-1944

Built by Harima Shipbuilding and Engineering, Aioi, Japan with yard number 256 in 1939 for Nippon Kaiun K.K. Completed on 15 August 1939, requisitioned by the Japanese Imperial Navy on 5 September 1941, converted into a naval auxiliary (replenishment ship) at Naniwa Dockuard, Osaka between 30 November 1941-7 January 1942, sunk in an American air attack on Palau on 30 March 1944, stricken on 10 May 1944, refloated in 1957 but sunk underway to Japan. Gross register tonnage 10.182 ton and as dimensions 505 (between perpendiculars) x 65 x 11 (light)-29.6 (loaded) feet. One screw. Diesel machinery with an oil bunker capacity of 1.800 tons allowing a range of 20.000 nautical miles/17 knots. Speed 17 (cruising)-20 (maximum) knots. Oil carrying capacity 110.000 barrels (42 galleons). Armed with 1-12cm/4.7” LA gun.
