Allied warships firing at insurgents at Candea according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 23 February 1897

An item dated London, England 22 February reported that the Allied warships fired during 25 minutes with totally 70 grenades on the insurgents at Candea while the later refused to stop firing with their rifles. The British ships started the bombardment with a German cruiser firing melanite grenades. The insurgents fled.
