The positions of the enemy submarines according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 22 August 1942

An item reported that by 21 August the heaviest concentration of enemy submarines was to be found eastward of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and secondly 10 submarines in the Florida Straits-Eastern Caribbean area. Between Trinidad and the Cape Verde Islands were 6 submarines active and 3 more in the vicinity of Bahia, Brazil. Further more one in the vicinity of Cape Cod, one off Cape Lookout and one near the Mississippi delta.
