An item reported that British RAF planes sighted on 5 April at 0015 G.M.T. a Japanese naval force 110 miles southwest of Ceylon. It concluded at last 1 battleship, 2 cruisers and 4 other ships. Colombo was attacked at 0209 G.M.T. by at least 50 Japanese bombers and 25 fighters causing extensively damage to the harbour repairs shops and sinking an old destroyer and an armed merchant ship was believed to be a total loss. The Japanese lost 25 and the British 14 aircraft. In the approaches to Culcatta were 3 ships by aircraft attacked.
