Dutch 3-cylinder submarine Hr.Ms. Tonijn 1962-1991 (since 1994 museum ship)

Pennant S805. Callsign PAPI. Laid down on 26 October 1962 at the shipyard Wilton-Fijenoord at Schiedam, Netherlands with yard number 783, launched 14 June 1965, commissioned on 24 February 1966 and finally decommissioned on 10 January 1991. She is still existing as part of the naval museum at Den Helderm Netherlands. A 3-cylinder submarine according to the principles developed by the Dutch engineer M.F. Gunning as part of the Potvis-class consisting of the Tonijn and the Potvis. Originally intension was to fit these submarins out with nuclear reactors. With as dimensions 1.509 (surfaced)-1.831 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 78,3 x 7,8 x 5 metres. The horsepower of 2x12.50 hp diesels and 2x2.200 hp electric motors allowed a speed of 145 (surfaced)-17 (submerged) knots. Maximum calculated diving depth was 350 metres, although in the practice while the Tonijn even dived accidentally to a depth of 400 metres. Her crew numbered 67 men. The armament included 8-21” torpedto tubes an apparently mines.
