The French newspaper le Moniteur republished the tidings from Mogadore dated until 24 August from a newspaper from Toulon according to which the prince de Joinville left with all of his large ships except foe the Belle Poule towards Cadiz, Spain. The loss of the le Groënland was a considerable one.(1) According to a newspaper from Paris were her engines built by Mr. Hallette, costs 820.000 francs. The costs of the building and fitting out of a steam frigate were estimated at 3.000.000 francs. She was one of the four steamships built very recently for a regular cross Atlantic communication line but temporarily destined for war service in the Mediterranean. Her commanding officer lieutenant Besson had to appear for a council of war.
