Tunis, 7 September. The government of Tunis declared war against Sardinia and the Sardinian consul left to Genoa. In the meantime two privateers all ready left the harbour. The Sardinian corvette which brought the consul to Genoa returned to Italy to join a squadron which was to send by the crown to Tripoli. On board was a new consul for Tunis ordered to negotiate.
Paris, 30 September. The complete Sardinian squadron departed 12 September Genoa following the corvette Christina and a frigate. With the squadron also 4 transports departed with on board the consuls and vice consuls and other agents for the several Barbarian ports and to bring the usual gifts. The frigate Commerce and the corvette Nereide were ordered to escort the transports while the Chistina was earlier send to Tripoli for the negotiations.
