The newspaper Moniteur of Paris supplied some details dealing with the French corvettes l’Astrolabe and la Zelee while they were in the Strait of Magelhaes on their exploring voyage. Both ships arrived at the entrance of this strait 12 December 1837, a month after departing from Rio de Janeiro. On board was Mr. Dumont d’Orville. The 13th was Cape Negro passed. Due to contrary winds they arrived not earlier as the 15th at Port Famine where they anchored. They departed 28 December while passing Cape Forwards and arriving next day in the Bay Fortescue while departing from here 3 days later.
