The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 3 September 1824

Frankfurt, 29 August. Tidings dealing with the capture by the Turkish of Ipsara reported that 110 Greek ships were captured by the Turkish. Over 500 heads, more as 1.200 ears and 33 banners were send to Constantinople!

Vienna, 22 August. The newspaper Oesterreichische Beobachter dated 26 July published a topic dealing with the latest events in the Archipelago. Since some days were rumours that the Greek squadron of Hydra recaptured Ipsara and while destroying or capturing some ships of the Captain Pasha. Letters from Smyrna confirmed these rumours. Some ships of Ipsara which managed to escape 3 July arrived at Hydra for help. The inhabitants of Hydra send immediately 30 armed vessels towards sea taking at Samos more troops on board. The 16th they arrived off Ipsara where the Captain Pasha left 6.000-7.000 men and some transport barks and gun sloops. The soldiers were slaughtered and the ships destroyed. When the Greek retired they met a Turkish frigate which managed to escape unharmed to Mitylene.
