The Turkish and Greek navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 5 August 1825

The unexpected appearance of the Captain Pasha off Cape Popa caused a lot of tumult. According to the rumours admiral Neuga commanding officer of the Greek division of the Etolian and Albanian coast was just informed after the Turkish appearance. Immediately he departed leaving the smaller warships behind in the bay, probably to join one of the two Greek squadrons off the South coast of Morea. Some Turkish ships entered the bay and the Greek warships sailed to the Gulf of Corinth to be safe. The Captain Pasha requested immediately his staff officers and the two commanding officers Jussuf Pasha and Reschid Pasha to come on board of his ship to consult him for the further operations. Some rumours claimed that the Greek admiral Miaulis sailed to the Ionian Sea to attack the Turkish admiral, according to others he sailed to Hydra to consult the government leaving Sachturi to blockade Navarino in which port the Turkish fleet was lying.
