The Brazilian naval strength around 1824

According to the American Monitor the Brazilian Imperial Navy consisted in 1824 of the ship-of-the-line Don Pedro I, the frigates Piranga, Nitheroy, Paragguassu and Imperatrix, the sloops Carioca, Massaio, Maria de Gloria, Caramuru and Liberal, the brigs Guarani, Cacique, Maranhao, Bahia, Carvalho and Independencia ou Morte, the transports Caridade, Harmonia and Animon Grande and finally two brigs at Montevideo and a considerable amount of armed schooners, sloops and gunboats.
