Communist propaganda in Dutch naval base at Den Helder, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad daily edition dated 13 February 1933

According to this newspaper resulted the mutiny on board of the coastal defence ship Zeven Provincien in a propaganda campaign by the Arbeiderspers [Labourers press] and communistic agitators especially in Den Helder. A large of number of agitators distributed all kinds of pamphlets. Soldiers and the police arrested 17 of these propagandists which were send to the prison. The navy reacted by taken measures as doubling the guards and day and night were torpedo boats prepared for immediate action. The sailors themselves hardly reacted on the invasion of the propagandists coming from outside of Den Helder who apparently didn’t succeed in their intentions. The commanding officer of Den Helder wrote that in the last days more or less alarming intelligence was received that outsiders had intentions to disturb the daily affairs. So until these intelligence was proven to be not correct was watchfulness needed. Yet the situation in Den Helder was still calm.

Note
1. The mutiny was between 4-10 February 1933.
