The frigate San Francesco de Paulo of Genoa in fight with Algerian privateers in 1763

In the local Dutchl newspaper called Leeuwarder Courant dated 10 December 1763 was an account published, written by Dominico Castellino of his fight with Algerian privateers. Castellino commanded the armed frigate San Francesco de Paulo of Genoa when about forty miles distance of the island Ivica on 17 October the whole day fought with 4 large chebecs and a frigate of Algeria. At the end the Algerians left the battlefield with heavy losses. On board of the San Francesco de Paulo were 12 dead and 40 wounded, among the latter were the son of the captain, the Lieutenant commanding the soldiers, the surgeon and the chaplain. The frigate went for repairs to the Ivica and was destined for Cadiz where she was to be sold to merchants. According to the newspaper was Castellino a well known shipbuilder in those and was involved in building very fine ships, especially a 64 guns ship, built in 1759 and sold to the French crown where she served in the Toulon squadron. Within short time another ship of his design was to be launched at Genoa. For his ships was the best quality of timber used and their strength and sailing capacities were much better than of other ships.
