Italian navy lacking enough strength according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad evening edition dated 9 October 1928

The results of publishing the contents of the Italian note dealing with the French-British naval agreement wasn’t enthusiastically met in Paris. The Italian demands that Italy ought to have a navy as strong as the French wasn’t accepted. Havas pointed out to an article in the newspaper le Matin according to which France had a quite larger territory to defend as Italy did. When both navies were equally strong was Italy the superior naval force in the Mediterranean to this difference. In the Italian newspaper Lavore d’Italia was in a comment dated Rome 9 October said that Italy as being a major Mediterranean naval power in each new conflict would play an important roll. If the Italian navy was compared with other is was obvious that the large battleships above the 10.000 ton were no match for foreign battleships. The naval strength wasn’t enough to be feared by any nation who wanted to act in the Mediterranean.
