Japanese minelayer Tokiwa (1898) 1922-1947

She was ordered in the budget year 1897, laid down at the yard of Armstrong Whitworth, United Kingdom on 6 January that year, launched on 6 July 1898m completed on 18 May 1899, reclassified on 30 September 1921 as a 1st class Coast Defence Vessel, a year later converted into a minelayer.  and finally sunk during an attack by American aircraft on 9 August 1945 off Ominato, Mustu Bay, stricken from the Navy List 30 November of the sane year, salvaged on 5 April 1947 and broken up between August and October that year at Hakodate, Hokkaido. Belonged to the protected cruisers of the Asama-class but later fitted out as a minelayer at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal completed on 30 September 1922. With a displacement of 9,240 tons were her dimensions 442 x 67¼ x 24¼ feet. As minelayer consisted her armament of 2-8” guns, 8-6” guns and maximum 13-3” guns. According to Jane’s 1931. The original armament consisted of 2x2-” guns, 14-6” guns, 12-12pdr quick firing guns, 7-2½pdr quick firing guns and 5-14” torpedo tubes.
