Japanese naval base at the island Prata according to the Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 6 September 1907

The American newspaper New York Herald reported that Japan occupied the Kwanto district on the island Prata despite the fact that China claimed the island as it were Chinese fishermen who used it for the first time. It seemed that Japan wanted to found a naval station to be used as a fleet base for instance during a war with the United States. China protested but it was unclear what her reactions would be.
