Russian and Japanese warships visiting British Portsmouth according to the Dutch newspaper Het Nieuws van de Dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 6 August 1910

The Japanese cruiser Ikoma arrived for showing the flag at the British harbour Portsmouth. The officers and the rest of the crew were by the maritime authorities and the town council with large enthusiasm to be received. Harsh enough were on 7 August also four Russian cruisers expected in this same harbour and the intention was to receive the Russian and the Japanese sailors at the same time. Nothing was said in this item that both countries had been in war (8 February 1904-5 September 1905) in which Russia was severely defeated by Japan losing many ships and of which some now were in Japanese naval service.(1)
