French naval movements off the Spanish coast according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 25 February 1823

London, 21 February. British newspapers published a news item dated Brest 8 February. According to this item was with all haste the 80-gun Centaur captain Cuveiler fitted out(1). A recently at l’Orient built frigate commanded by Villaret was to depart towards sea within short time. The Jean-Bart vice admiral Meynard Lafargue was waiting for a favourable wind to depart.(2) These ships were to cruise off the Spanish coast. The corvettes la Prudente (3), l’Euryale (4), la Sapho (5) and la Philomele (6) were all ready at sea. Admiral Hamelin on board of the ship of the line le Colosse (7) was also ordered to cruise off the Spanish coast. He possessed the la Guerriere (8), l’Hebé (9) and the le Laurier (10). Four more frigates were ordered to be fitted out for the same destination.

Paris, 20 February. According to tidings from Toulon dated 12 February were there telegraphic orders received to fit out without any delay one ship of the line, 2 frigates, 1 corvette, 4 brigs, 2 goelettes and 3 gun launches. There were all ready 2 frigates, 2 goelettes and 1 brig ready for departure.
