Genoa, 24 November. According to received tidings was the Greek fleet heavily beaten by the Turkish in a sea battle near Zante despite their fiercely efforts due to the smaller size of their vessels.
Trieste, 20 November. The Austrian court announced 15 October that the port of Smirna was considered as a start point for the Austrian flotilla of the Archipelago. This flotilla was ordered to cruise in this area as far as Tenedos while conveying Austrian merchant ships to those harbours which were the most harassed by the Greek privateers and in the fairways between Candia, Rhodus, Cyprus and Alexandria. Her commanding officer was ordered to keep a constant communication going on with the Austrian consulate at Alexandria and the internuntius at Constantinople and to keep one’s eye on the vessels of the rebelling Greeks and Turkish privateers.
