The Portuguese navy in 1793 en 1821 according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 25 February 1822

Lisbon, 6 February. The Portuguese navy numbered in 1793 1-110 gun ship of the line, 1-80 gun ship of the line, 4-74 gun ships of the line, 6-64 gun ships of the line,2-46 gun frigates, 1-44 gun frigate, 1-40 gun frigate, 8-36 gun frigates en 10 corvettes the latter armed with totally 222 guns. There were totally 143 navy officers namely 2 admirals, 3 vice-admirals, 10 commodores, 29 captains, 11 frigate captains, 40 lieutenants 1st class, 36 lieutenants 2nd class and 22 lieutenants 3rd class. 

In 1821 numbered the navy just 4 ships suitable to serve namely 1-74 gun ship of the line and 3-64 gun ships of the line, of the latter were 2 in worse condition. There was another 74-gun ship of the line called Rainha which recently arrived coming back from Rio Janeiro but useless for further service. Further more were 11 frigates with totally 428 guns of which 3 still on the stocks, 6 corvettes with totally 175 guns and 6 brigs with totally 152 guns. There were 300 navy officers at Lisbon and another 285 in Brazil.
