American squadron stationed in the Philippines according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 6 February 1908

The correspondent of the Times reported to his newspaper that according to rumours the fleet commanded by admiral Evans (1) was to be strengthened with a number of new battleships and cruisers. During the homeward bound voyage were 8 warships to left behind at the Philippines. The newspaper Het nieuws van den dag wrote on the same day that a tiding from New York was received that probably a squadron of four battleships and four cruisers was stationed permanently in the Philippines.
