British ‘armoured’ ships of the line according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode 18 August 1858

A news item reported that the British ships of the line were to be built using a new system. The hull was to be covered with iron bullet proof disks to protect the crew and the sharpshooters. There was to be one single gun deck with guns of the heaviest calibre and further more mortars. Despite their inelegant appearance were these ships to reach a acceptable speed.
