Charles Edison appointed as US Secretary of the Navy according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 2 January 1940

An item reported that president Roosevelt (1) appointed Charles Edison (2), son of the famous inventor Thomas as his minister of Navy. Edison was already ad interim minister since the death of Claude Swanson.(3) Another newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 2 January 1940 confirmed this item and published the photo of Charles Edison below.

2. Charles Edison (3 August 1890-31 July 1969) Assistant Secretary of the Navy since 18 January 1937, replacing Swanson since his death and Secretary of the Navy 2 January 1940-24 June 1940 and governor of New Jersey 21 January 1941-18 January 1944. He supported strongly the building of the Iowa-battleships and that one should be build at the Philadelphia navy yard.
3. Claude Augustus Swanson (31 March 1862-7 July 1939), Secretary of the Navy 6 March 1933-7 July 1939.
