French naval strength according to the Dutch newspaper De Avondbode dated 10 May 1838

In the newspaper Moniteur was a report published handed over by the French minister of navy to the crown reported that the navy numbered 22 ships of the line and 36 frigates while another 27 ships of the line and 36 frigates were being build. A Royal decision of 1837 ordered that the war strength of he French navy was to consist of 40 ships of the line and 50 frigates with a reserve of 13 ships of the line and 16 frigates so that more ships were to be build.
