Russian naval reorganisation according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuw Amsterdamsch handels- en effectenblad dated 11 March 1858

An item dated St. Petersburg 28 February reported that a proposal of the grand duke (1) was approved and 69 appointments in the higher echelons were stricken to reduce the costs. The sailors were to be fitted out with a new typ sable of which already 6,000 were supplied. Tidings were received dealing with the two steam squadrons in the Black Sea and the squadron commanded by Kiezniezow destined towards the Amur and the movements of the Russian ships in the Black Sea. The latter were transporting materials for the ships of the line Cesarewitch and Sinope now being build at Nikolajew and gunpowder, weapons, officials and officers to the several sea towns.
