The future strength of the West German navy according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 18 January 1956

An item reported that according to a reliable source the future West German navy would number 170 units with a total personnel strength of 17,000 men. The first ships were to be commissioned in April and begin 1960 should the founding program to be completed. The navy was to consist of 2,500 ton minelayers, 2,200 tons destroyers, 1,200 tons escorteurs, fast vessels and 300 tons gunboats for the Baltic, further more coastal defence submarines which were able to be submerged for a period of ten days and two naval aircraft squadrons for reconnaissance and anti submarine purposes.
