An item dated Bogota, Colombia dated 16 June reported that the gunboat Hercules was destroyed caused by a boiler explosion.(1) Ten crewmembers were killed and some wounded. Her commanding officer was missing.

In a second item dated New York 18 June it was reported that 51 crewmembers were missing fearing all were dead. There would be just some survivors.
