Dutch yard Conrad at Haarlem building dredgers for Japan according to the Dutch newspaper Haarlem’s Dagblad 1887 and 1889

The edition dated 29 October 1887 dealing with the results in 1886 reported that the yard received now an order to build a sand suction dredger for Japan with as dimensions 40 x 8,60 metres and a draught of 3,25 metres and 300 hp. She would be too large to pass the Spaarndam lock and her draught was too large to go via Gouda-Rotterdam towards sea. If the order was accepted the yard would be obliged the dredger outside Haarlem. The necessity to enlarge the lock became for Haarlem more and more important is she wanted to attract more industry.

The edition dated Saturday 16 September 1889 reported that last Wednesday the official trial of a giant bucket dredger and suction dredger found place in the presence of a Japanese engineer. She was build for the harbour works of Nagoya, Japan.
