An item reported that the Great European powers started with occupying Crete.(1) The commanding officer of the Greek squadron was made clear that he ought to respect the international law. Germany had protested when the Hydra prevented a Turkish transport bringing troops from Kanea to Sitia by firing some shots. Prince George was told by the British admiral that if he would obey his fathers orders the British navy would use violence. Another part of the Greek navy landed troops at Platania on one hour distance of Kanea and which were commanded by colonel Vassos, adjutant of the Greek king. The edition a day later reported that it was the Greek flagship Amiral Miaulis which shot at the Turkish transport Foead.
Note
1. In 1898 was Chania [Kanea] made capital by the so-called Great Powers of the semi-autonomous Cretan State under ottoman suzerainty. An insurrection in Crete in 1897 resulted in declaring the Ottoman Empire war on Greece ending in an intervention by the Great Powers. Prince George became the first High Commissioner. On 1 December 1913 was Crete officially united with the rest of Greece.
