Tidings from Malaga confirmed the capture by Spanish warships of Algerian privateers and which were brought into that harbour. The brothers don Antonio and Joseph Barcello commanding officers of two chebecqs were anchored at Almeria when that were informed that four Algerian barques were cruising in that area. On 25 January left the Spanish warships the harbour and attacked the privateers off Cape Gate while firing within a half pistol shot distance causing the surrender of the Algerians. Don Antonio captured a barque pierced of six guns and armed with 82 Turkish and Moorish sailors of which 45 were killed including one renegade another two heavily wounded. Don Joseph captured a barque armed with six guns and 76 men of which 51 survived the fight including six wounded. On Spanish side were just one sailors and a boy wounded. Four days earlier destroyed Don Antonio a saik armed with six guns.
