An item reported that Italian authorities were investigating the possibilities to accept a Chilean offer to exchange saltpetre for ships. A Chilean delegation which was visiting Europe wished to acquire 8-1,000 tons ships and 12-3,500/4,000 tons in exchange for Chilean salpetre en perhaps copper.
