French transport wrecked off Cape Guardafui according to the Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant dated 30 August 1884

An item reported that off Cape Guardafui a French transport was wrecked. One part of her crew numbering 286 men arrived at Aden, the other 300 stayed with the wreck. The British warship HMS Briton was to go the situ to supply if necessary help.(1)

1. HMS Briton was a wood-build screw steam corvette launched at Sheerness on 11 June 1869 and which was in 1887 sold at Bombay. With a measurement of 1,331 tons burthen or 1,860 tons.
