Dutch bark ship Maria Adriana bound towards Batavia/Surabaya, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant dated 12 August 1869

An announcement reported that the fast Dutch bark ship Maria Adriana was lying in Rotterdam captain J.A. Ruhaak destined towards Batavia and/or Surabaya. With large well passenger accommodation. For more details could be asked at Vroege&De Wijs.(1)

The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 18 October published an announcement that the same notary intended to sell on 20 October at 09.00 o’clock at Brouwershaven her hull beached on Dwars in den Weg off Brouwershaven and further more her salvaged inventory and a considerable cargo of damaged coffee. Her captain was Ruhaak. More details could be asked at the notary or ship broker J. de Kater.The newspaper Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 22 October reported that the wreck was sold for ƒ 713 to A. van der Linde in Ouddorp. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 10 October published an item dated Brouwershaven 8 October. All efforts were done to salvage her cargo. Three small vessels met dry coffee already arrived. A pilot cutter fastened her with a chain and anchors to prevent her moving. The edition dated 13 October published an item dated Brouwershaven dated 12 October reporting that she was complete lost. The newspaper De Tijd dated 11 October published an item dated Amsterdam 10 October that when she entered the harbour of Brouwershaven captain J.A. Ruhaak underway from Batavia towards Rotterdam she hit a American schooner losing the bowsprit and then hit the ram of the Dutch ram turret Schorpioen causing her leaking. The tugs Sliedrecht and Onrust assisted in beaching her off Dwars in den Weg with her cargo hold already completely filled with water. Later tidings reported that she was broken and complete gone. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 17 December 1870 published an announcement that notary J. van den Bent intended to sell on a public auction at Brouwershaven on Friday 23 December at 10.00 o’clock a part of her rigging, anchors, chains, sapan wood and so on out of her wreck.
