Soviet naval strength according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws dated 25 September 1954

An item referred to a statement made by the British Admiralty dealing with the Soviet naval strength. It was expected that within 2 or 3 years the Soviet fleet would number 500 submarines and 4.000 naval planes. Further more were around that time 30 cruisers, 150 destroyers, 500 motor torpedo boats, 1.000 minesweepers, 300 escort vessels and numerous patrol crafts and landing crafts. It was estimated that since 1945 the Soviet Union spent 120 milliard Dutch guilders to build up her navy.
