The Dutch bark ship Rio Grande according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated Thursday 18 November 1858

An item dated Groningen 15 November reported that there the 13th the newly iron-built bark ship Rio Grande captain R. Rijkens of Veendam arrived. She was built at the shipyard of E.H. Meursing in Hoogezand with a measurement of 140 last and as dimensions 140 (keel) x 23 x 12 (hold) feet and the first ship built of this size at this shipyard. She was described as being an elegant ship.(1)

1. The website http://www.scheepsindex.nl/schip.php?i=8570 claims that she was iron-build in 1859 at Hoogezand with a tonnage of 256 tons for Emmo Hooites Meursing with as captain R.R. Rijkens. This building year can’t be write regarded the news item of 1869.
