Just like her sister ship General Urdaneta (29 September 1925) was she launched on 18 November 1925 for the Italian navy at Monfalcone as the Milazzo respectively Dardanelli, she was completed in October 1926 and her sister ship a month earlier and both in 1938 sold to Venezuela.
According to the website http://www.navypedia.org/ships/venezuela/ven_of_general_soublette.htm were both ships original Italian minelayers of the Ostia-class but when sold was the mine laying equipment removed. Jane’s Fighting Ships claimed that this equipment was still available in the Second World War. With a displacement of 615-850 (full load) tons were her dimensions 204 x 28½ x 8½ feet. The engines supplied 1.500 hp allowing a speed of 15 knots. Original using coal as fuel were both ships in 1938 the boilers converted oil-burning. The armament consisted of 2-4” guns, 1-3” anti aircraft guns and 2 machineguns and there were equipped for mine laying.
Both ships visited in 1944 Curacao. In the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 6 November was a small item dealing with this visit and celebration pf perhaps the first time that the Venezuelan navy visited this island published. Present Venezuelan officers were captain Antonio Picard, frigate captains Stephen Hammond jr. and the lieutenants Amador Hernandez and Cervelion Fortoul
