USA preparing large number of small ships for aid programs according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 22 June 1946

An item referred to a statement of the American director for reconversion John Snyder that a large number small ships was repaired by the army and navy and would be handed over to the Philippines, China and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). Furthermore he said that all efforts were done to repair ships smaller as 1.500 tons so that they could be used for the aid programs. Among these ships were small freighters, minesweepers, tugs, lighters and riverboats.
