Belgian shipyards ordered building of Soviet Union tankers according to the Dutch newspaper Het vrije volk dated 4 January 1954

An item reported that Belgian shipyards signed after two months negotiating contracts in the Soviet Union for building ten tankers at the yards of Chantiers Navals at Tamise. At that moment existed just two important shipyards in Belgium. The largest was that of Cockerill able to built ships of 20.000-30.000 and were in the last years several large tankers were built. Experts though that at this yard yearly around five large ships could be built. The yard Van Boel at Tamise was smaller. In 1852 she was ordered to built four 13.000 tons tankers of which the first now was completed. The slip on which these tankers were built was just one year old. Chantiers Navals was now able to complete two tankers yearly is she was not increased and probably could not start earlier as in 1955 with the Soviet tankers.
