Iranian freighters Persepolis and Persia built at Dutch shipyard at Hardinxveld-Giessendam according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad voor Gorinchen en omstreken dated Wednesday 18 September 1957

An item reported that at 9.15 o’clock the Saturday before at the shipyard scheepsweef en machinefabriek ‘Holland’ at Hardinxveld-Giessendam v/h M. The building was ordered by Verolme’s  Verenigde Scheepswerven N.V. the National Iranian Tanker Company at Teheran. The measurement was 1.000 tons with as dimensions 69 (over all) x 10,50 x 6 metres. Fitted out with a 800 hp MAN-engine and further more also a freezing equipment Immediately was the keel laid down of her sister ship with yard number 254 and which was to be launched begin next year. The edition dated Monday 16 December reported that the Monday she performed well during her technical trial and on Thursday morning was handed over to the owner. The edition dated Monday 17 March 1958 reported the launching on Thursday of the Persia. The edition dated 30 July confirmed the building of the two coast freighters of which the Persepolis already was delivered. Her sister ship Persia was now this week via Verolme in the presence of the Iranian ambassador S.A. Maybud and to depart within some days towards Iran. Her technical specifications were similar to the Persepolis, the draught was 3,71 metres. The Dutch Verolme’s scheepswerven had received a large order including 2-33.000 tons tankers and both coast freighters.
