Portuguese gunboat Mindello underway to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 15 July 1893

An item dated Lisbon 14 July referred to the newspapers reporting that an official tiding was received from the Portuguese ambassador in Rio de Janeiro writing that he expected that the president would be deposed. He requested that the gunboat Mindello would be sent from Angelo.(1) At Rio were also British warships expected.

1. A sloop built in 1875 at the British shipyard Thames Iron Works of 1.106 tons and armed with 2-7” guns and 6-4.7” guns.
