Swedish coastal defence ship Dristigheden 1898-1947


The armament as a tender was reduced to 4-14pd guns. The engines supplied 5.000 hp allowing a speed of 16 knots. The coal bunker capacity was 310 tons. This coastal defence ship was laid down in 1898 at the Lindholmens shipyard at Gothenburg, launched on 28 April 1900, commissioned on 5 September a year later, 1927 converted in to aviation depot ship  and finally stricken 13 June 1947 and broken up. With a displacement of 3.445 tons were her dimensions 86,87 x 14,78 x 4,88 metres, Her steam triple expansion engines and eight boilers supplied 5.400 shp while driven two screws allowing a speed of 16,5 knots and by a speed of 10 knots a range of 2.040 nautical miles. Her crew as a defence ship numbered 262 men. The original armament consisted of 2x1-21cm guns, 6x1-15,2cm guns, 10x1-5,7cm guns and 2x45,7cm torpedo tubes. The Harvey Nickel made armour finally consisted of a 20,3cm/8” thick main belt with a comparable thickness for the main turrets.
