Dutch cargo vessel Tjikini of the company Java-China-Japan Lijn 1905-1931
Ordered by the Dutch shipping company Java-China-Japan Lijn at Amsterdam on 3 November 1905, laid down on the northern slip on 28 February 1906 with building number 124, in the thrushes on 24 July, plating fitted on 4 October and launched on 17 November by Miss M.A.A. Martin. Trials while berthed on 16 January 1907, official trail on 21 February between Amsterdam and Cardiff during bad weather conditions and finally after a building time of 16½ months delivered to her owner. She departed on 21 February towards Amsterdam. Dimensions 113,69 (between perpendiculars)-117,95 (over all) x 15,06 x 6,71-7,50 metres and a hold of 6,77 (between decks)-9,17 (below upper deck) metres or 373’0”-387’0”x 49’5”x 22’0”-24’7½” (summer mark). During the launching was her draught 6’1”(fore)-8’7”(aft) and her displacement 2.700 ton. Displacement 9.200-10.450 (summer mark). Deadweight 5.925 (draught 22’0”0-6.958 (draught 24’7½”). Tonnage 4.736,81 gross and 3.1014,12 net tons. Six hatches and 2 decks. Fitted out with 5-3 ton steam winches and 8-1,8 ton winches. Cargo hold capacity 404.000cubic ft grain or 369.451 cubic feet bales. One 25 ton derrick. Eight watertight bulkheads. Coal bunker capacity 654 ton coal and 625 ton reserve and as ballast 955 ton water. Fresh water bunker capacity 58 tons. Accommodation for 3 1st class and 12 2nd class passengers and further more for passenger ‘between decks’. Contract costs ƒ 789.300. Sold in February 1931 for 5.750 pound sterling sold to Japan to be broken up. Triple compound engine supplying 1.600 (projected at 79 rpm)-1.800 (contracted at 70 rpm)-2.000 (trial) ihp allowing a speed of 10,25 knots.
