Portuguese gunboat Liberal sent with troops to Quillimane according to the Dutch newspaper Tilburgsche courant dated 24 March 1892

An item reported that the town Quillimane was threatened by to large number of natives. All citizens were armed by the Portuguese government to repel the attack. Governor Lopez Andrade responsible for the defence ordered the gunboat Liberal at Moçambique to depart the 26th with around Portuguese soldiers towards Quilimane.(1)

1. Built in 1884 at Laird with a displacement of 549 tons and a length of 139’5” (between perpendiculars), a speed of 10 knots and armed with 1-6” gun and 2-4.1” guns.
