An item dated Montevideo the 14th reported that the French steamship Mendoza which was stopped on the 13th by the British auxiliary cruiser Asturia but escaped to Uruguayan waters again departed with unknown destination. She lied for a night at the entrance of Montevideo. She departed the 10th loaded with all kind of stores for Vichy France (1) trying to run the British blockade.

1. Vichy France also known as Vichy Regime, Vichy Government or Vichy existed between July 1940 and August 1944 and was in fact a government collaborating with the Germans. This government called itself the French State and had the most authority in what was known as the Free Zone. The Mendoza was destined towards this Free Zone.
