She was built as the German steam Vulkan in 1890 at the shipyard Boücke&Sieg with as dimensions 117½ x 20¾ x 8½ feet and a displacement of 275 tons. Her armament consisted of 2-3pdr guns and 2 machineguns. The sets triple expansion engines and one cylindrical boiler supplied 250 ihp allowing while driving two screws a speed of 8 knots, Her crew numbered 34 men.
