British torpedo school at Sheerness founded according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1899-1900

An item reported that the British Admiralty decided to found a torpedo school at Sheerness to create training facilities for the East coast harbours preventing that officers were to be sent from Chatham towards Portsmouth for training. Temporarily was the aged Invincible to serve as school ship.(1)

Note
1. The edition dated 1904-1905 referred to the German magazine Schiffbau dated 27 April 1904 which reported that she was commissioned at Portsmouth as a depot ship for destroyers and able to execute small repairs. Her guns and engines were removed.
