Dutch packets Tasman and Houtman being built according to the Dutch magazine De ingenieur dated 1 September 1905
An item reported that the shipyard Fijenoord was building the packets Tasman and Houtman on account of the Kon. Ned. Paketvaartmaatschappij with as dimensions 250’0” (between perpendiculars) x 40’0” (on thrushes) x 20’0” (hold below main deck). Double bottom over the whole length. Triple compound engines and cylindrical boilers, pressure 160 lbs and Howdens’draught. Not fitted out with passenger accommodation. Were able to transport 2.000 ton coal with a speed of 9 miles and a draught of 14’6” and so probably excellent suitable to be used as colliers for the auxiliary squadron.
