Spanish navy selling useless ships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1900-1901 no. 7
An item referred to the foreign magazine International Review reporting that as a result of the reorganisation of the Spanish navy all ships were sold which were not seaworthy or even suitable to serve as transport or coal hulk. It included the cruisers Alfonso XII, Alfonso XIII, Conde de Venadito, Isabel II and Marques de la Ensenado , the gunboats Temerario, Martin Alonso, Vicente, Yanez, Marques de Molins and General Valdez and the torpedo boats Retamosa, Rigil, Ejercito and Castor. The armoured frigates Numancia and Vitoria and the unprotected cruiser Isabel were also to be stricken as soon as their boilers were to be replaced of major repairs needed. The surplus of officers as a result of these sales was to be divided over de shipyards and navy schools.
